SHOP THE POST
My night-time routine has been sufficiently lacking as of late to say the least. I have to say most nights I’m checking emails or trying to finish a blog post from BED that I haven’t had time to get to during the day (which is never something I did when I worked out of the home) I’ve also been sleeping pretty poorly lately which has got me thinking that we spend so much time encouraging “good bed-time habits” and setting bedtime routines for our little ones and it was probably time for me to adopt some good bed time habits of my own. How do you guys unwind after a long day? 2 things that I take small joys in are a HOT SHOWER & CLEAN SHEETS. Is there anything better then going to bed the night you did laundry and have clean crisp bedding? (My bedding is Matouk & throw pillows are John Robshaw) Honestly this is one small thing that brings me so much joy. I’ve also decided to up my Pajama GAME. I just purchased a few new sets of pjs. My sweats (with holes in them :0) and husbands old tees were just not cutting it and I figured that having a few comfortable and nice pairs of pajamas would also help put me in the mood to wind down and relax before bed. *Scroll to the end of this post for my pj picks*
ADOPTING GOOD BED TIME HABITS
Hot SHOWER: if I lived in a house I would definitly be taking a bubble bath! Maybe listening to some Enya, lighting some candles (I kid) but yes I’m a fan of a nice relaxing bath every once in a while… until then I take a hot shower every evening after we put Rosie to bed. It’s a good way for me to unwind from the day and it’s a few minutes that I have to myself uninterrupted.
Get back to reading before bed: I was an English major and have always enjoyed reading for pleasure but after having Rosie there just didn’t seem to be time for what I considered “reading for pleasure”- sadly this activity now has been saved for the summer months ( when there are more hands on the beach 😉 or on adults only vacation which hasn’t happened in quite some time. I’m aiming to swap a book for the TV.
NO TV/phone in bed: my husband and I often turn on stand up comedy when we can’t fall asleep but we never used to watch TV in bed when it was just us. The phone thing is also hard. I like to check all my emails and get my instagram post for the next day done but when I think back pre-blog Instagram scrolling would never be a regular occurrence when I got home from work at night.
Re-start a Skincare Routine: I don’t know about you guys but I’m really bad with this. I’ll go for weeks at a time where I’ll use an eye cream, retinol etc and then pretty much do nothing at all. Right now all I can manage is washing my face in the shower and putting on moisturizer. Given that I’m pregnant this is pretty much all I can do anyways but after the birth I plan on re-focusing on this.
