This weekend was a wash (lol). The rainy weekend forced us to tackle a few home related projects that we’ve haven’t gotten around to including baby-proofing. Margaret became very mobile very quickly and little bit earlier then I had anticipated. She crawled up a few flights of stairs which gave us a little scare last week and has been getting into EVERYTHING (especially in the kitchen) so it was definitely past due. We started with the basics below but have some more work to do….and by we I mean frank. I would call myself the General Manager, while Frank was in charge of installation 🙂 I linked some of the basics we are using below!
- Cabinet locks: I liked these particular cabinet locks for our kitchen cabinets because you can’t see them from the outside. You can also choose to keep them unlocked (switched off) great if your a grandparent and only need them to be on when kids are visiting) otherwise you simply push down a simple button to open when they are switched on. Super easy to install and no nails or drilling required.
- Outlet plugs: here
- corner protectors: here & here
- anti-tip furniture straps: these anti-tip straps are a must! All of our big furniture is secured to the walls with these straps. Yes they will leave holes in the walls (required a drill) but it’s better to have the peace of mind. If you ever order furniture from pottery barn kids they usually have these childproofing kits included.
- Gates: we have a tricky stair case so we only have a temporary one up at the bottom of the stairs right now. We are going to need something more permanent and likely to drill something in up at the top of the stairs. Looked into this style & this style (it’s pricy but it looks nice & doesn’t require drilling) Budget friendly pick: here
- toilet seat lock: here
- baby play pen: here– I have to admit I never had one of these before with Rosie because they kind of reminded me of a baby jail lol. That said with Rosie we also lived in a small NYC apartment with not many places for her to go. I’m hesitant to get one for Margaret but it would be nice to have something while we are all at home right now.
- window stoppers: here & here
- door locks & pinch guards: I just ordered this lock for our basement door – its right off the kitchen so being able to lock it from the top out of margaret’s reach is key. These pinch guards make it so your little ones fingers don’t get caught.
- fireplace gate: We have two fire places in our home— I wasn’t planning on getting something for here because we have the cover but might make sense to get a gate for the hearth as well. options: here & here
