We had the best trip to Italy! I’ve been a few times now and there is always something completely different and new to see which is why I love Italy so much! We usually opt for coastal towns so it was franks first time checking out all of the touristy sights in Rome & Florence… I took the role of tour guide which was fun as the roles are usually reversed!
When we travel..eating and drinking is just as important to us as seeing the sights and exploring the city… below I’ve included a brief recap of our travels in Rome with a few of my favorite spots & sights plus a round-up with some of my daily looks. Stay tuned for Part 2 which will cover Florence.

ROMA
WHERE WE STAYED: Hotel Eden which is part of the Dorchester Collection. We absolutely adored this hotel. The rooftop had the most amazing views of Rome and was great for a before dinner apretivo.. It was also perfectly situated away from the fray amidst the Villa Borghese Gardens but was still just a short stroll from the Spanish Steps & Rome’s epicenter! They also have a beautiful sister hotel in London with the best high-tea.
WHERE WE TOURED: We hit up all the major attractions…Trevi fountain, Spanish steps, the Colosseum & more… but one of my favorite highlights included renting bikes in the Borghese Gardens (think the central park of Rome) where we saw the Villa Medici (a new sight to me) My husband also scheduled a guided tour of the Vatican with the assistance of our hotel. I’ve been to the Vatican before but not with a guide, so this time around it was really nice having someone explain everything that we were seeing. We spent about 3 1/2 hours touring although you can spend an entire day or more. It was definitely on the pricer side but it’s something I would definitely recommend if you want to understand the immense history behind Vatican City. Fun fact: did you know that Michelangelo went blind from painting the ceiling of the Sistine chapel? It took him 4 years to compete and the entire time he was suspended in the air with paint dripping down into his eyes
WHERE WE ATE & DRANK: There are so so many good places to eat in Rome so I’ll just share a few of our favorites. For Lunch: Pizzeria da Baffetto buffeta (quick & delicious pizza) near Piazza Novana. For Lunch: Oil Shoppe: for sandwiches For Dinner: Taverna Trilusa (order the mimosa ravioli) apparently it’s won awards for being the best ravioli in the world!! And I will say it lived up to the hype. For Dinner: Ristorante Tullio it’s been said that any place in Rome where clergy shows up the food is guaranteed to be top notch… and we saw at least 3 priests while we were here. Food did not disappoint and was close to our hotel.
SHOPPING: I have to admit shopping was not high on the agenda this trip it was purely wedding fun, sightseeing and eating good food , drinking good wine and hanging with friends! We did love Trastevere (a new neighborhood that I hadn’t checked out before) It had so many cute little shops to pop in and out of. And of course you have to walk down the Via die Condotti even if it’s just for the window shopping.
